Mar de Musicas in Cartagena presents official poster for 2014
The festival takes place in Cartagena between 18th and 26th July
The Mar de Músicas festival in Cartagena has presented its promotional poster for this year’s event, which takes place in Cartagena between the 18th and 26th July.
This year’s poster has been designed by Carmen Calvo, who won the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas of 2013, drawing her inspiration, she says, from the famous work of pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais and his depiction of Ophelia floating in the water, selecting the face of a dreamy female portrait of the past, combined with a musical phrase from Don Giovanni, composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
In a way it’s a shame she didn´t follow the theme through and depict Ophelia floating in a sea of music, or drowning in melody as she slipped beneath the water, but music enthusiasts can be reassured that this year’s event does include a contemporary fusion of modern and vibrant bands, including Russian Red, who was fabulous last time she appeared at the festival,Calle 13, Ane Brun and Omara Portuondo as well as rock great Robert Plant in amongst its programme, which will be officially released on the 1st April.
Guest country Norway also looks set to contribute some contemporary and interesting musical treats for music fans.
More info about Cartagena can be found in the dedicated Cartagena municipality section, accessed via the map box at the bottom of every page.
