Official opening of new water treatment plant in the Mazarron village of La Majada
The bulk of the water treated will be used for crop irrigation in the Mazarrón countryside
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, was present on Wednesday at the official opening of a new water treatment plant in the village of La Majada which will be capable of purifying 22 cubic metres of water per day.
The plant has been installed at a cost of 592,000 euros and 95 per cent of the treated water will be used for crop irrigation in fields, nurseries and greenhouse plantations, leaving 5 per cent for urban use and services in an initiative which has been presented as an example of the circular economy.
Also present at the ceremony were Antonio Luengo, the minister in the regional government for Water, Agriculture, Farming and Fishing, and local councillors Tomás Ureña, Miguel Ángel Peña, José María Moreno and Alicia Jiménez.
