ARCHIVED - Next phase of return to normality announced from October 9
With almost 90% of the population, including Alicante province, now vaccinated the regional government plans to ease restrictions further
President of the Valencia region, Ximo Puig, has announced the next phase of de-escalation will include extended opening hours, increased capacity levels and the possible requirement of a Covid passport to get into bars, restaurants and nightlife venues from October 9, Community of Valencia Day.
Puig has stressed two main criteria must be met at the next meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission in order to guarantee a “return to normal activities”. Firstly that 90% of the population is vaccinated and secondly, that the 14-day cumulative incidence rate continues on a downward trend, reaching below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, the incidence rate currently stands at 53.13 cases, below the national average of 71.86.
“Neither the Fallas celebrations nor the return to school have impacted the number of new infections, which allows us to progress from October 9 in conditions of the maximum normality possible,” said Puig.
Opening hours and capacity levels will be extended, and it looks likely that a Covid vaccination certificate will be necessary to enter bars, restaurants, nightlife and other venues, to “safeguard citizens” and “guarantee rights”.
“With these measures, the regional government is taking steps towards recovery. The recovery of tourism and exports is crucial for economic growth, and we are in dialogue with the sectors to ensure they adapt to the new scenario,” added Puig.
Experts forecast a 6.7% growth in the Valencian economy in 2021 and more than 7% in 2022.
