ARCHIVED - New Mazarron waste water treatment plant in Majada proceeding well
The Murcia region recycles more of its waste water than any other area of Spain
The managing director of the Entity of Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment of the Region of Murcia (Esamur), Ignacio Díaz, visited the works of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the village of Majada, in the Mazarrón municipality on Monday to view the progress of the new installation.
This new infrastructure will contribute to promoting eco-sustainability of the municipality and supporting efforts being made by the regional government to promote the re-use of water, as after purifying the wastewater produced in the town, the cleaned water will be made available to local farmers for crop irrigation.
The project is expected to be completed by July, as work is progressing at a good pace.
The treatment plant has been designed to treat 8,000 cubic meters per year and is part of the II Plan for Sanitation and Treatment of the Region of Murcia-Horizonte 2035, which aims to help improve the infrastructure processing waste water, increase the availability of treated water for other uses, improve infrastructure financing systems, promote R + D + i in the water sector and increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies.
Although the Murcia region is the driest mainland region of Spain and has less rainfall than any other region, it also consumes less water per capita than anywhere else and recycles a larger percentage of water than anywhere else, a position which the new sanitation plan aims to improve yet further.
