ARCHIVED - New mass vaccination centre in Cartagena from May 24
The centre will be in the Rambla commercial centre on Avenida del Cantón, where Eroski was formerly located
Cartagena health authorities are preparing the Rambla commercial centre to be used as a mass vaccination centre from May 24, with the aim of increasing the inoculation rate and vaccinating more than 10,000 people per day in the Cartagena health district.
The commercial centre, which is in the location of the former Eroski store on Avenida del Cantón, has been in disuse for around two years and has 13,000 square metres of available space.
The owner of the building, Tomás Olivo, has allowed the authorities in Cartagena to make use of the abandoned space temporarily and free of charge.
The installation will be opening during the mornings and during the afternoons and will have three different vaccination lines as well as a seating area so that those who have received their vaccine can rest for 15 minutes, as per government recommendations. In addition, the commercial centre has 1,700 parking spaces and plenty of space inside for people to wait their turn, hopefully preventing queues forming outside in the hot summer sun.
With this new mass vaccination centre, and the three lines of vaccination, the health authorities hope to triple the current rate of vaccination, reaching 10,000 injections a day.
