Murcia promoting to the silver swallows of Dublin
The regional tourist board took part in a dedicated over 50’s travel show
The regional cultural and tourism department has once again been off on its travels, promoting the Region of Murcia as a holiday destination, this time to Ireland.
The tourism promotional team took part in the “Over 50’s Show” in Dublin, sharing a stand with the Spanish tourism promotion board in an event marketing directly to the public. This was part of the project to promote the attractions of the region out of season, minimising the effects of “seasonality” to which coastal regions which have always targeted the Spanish domestic market are so prone.
The promotional team also held meetings with Irish tour operators to present the region’s attractions, as well as offering a Mar Menor holidy as part of a prize draw initiative.
In 2012 just 17.253 Irish tourists came to Murcia, representing 3% of the region’s foreign tourists ( the largest percentage being the British.)
During the first 8 months of the year, nearly 12,000 tourists have flown to Murcia from Ireland, highlighting the huge potential which exists within this market, and in particular the vast potential offered by the “silver swallows” who just love to go a travelling in the cold winter months and get away from the misery of British and Irish winter rain and cold.
