ARCHIVED - Murcia unveils bumper program of music, culture and leisure activities
'En Modo Verano' (In Summer Mode) includes exhibitions and tours of some of Murcia city's most emblamatic places
Murcia Council has once again put together a bumper 'In Summer Mode' program of events for all ages, including a wide range of leisure, cultural, sporting and fun activities across the city and its districts.
Murcia Mayor José Antonio Serrano explained: "We want Murcia to be alive with activity this summer and for the second year running, we will fill the city centre and suburbs with around 450 activities for residents and the thousands of visitors who enjoy a few days' holiday on our nearby beaches".
There will be music to suit all tastes throughout July and full details of the program can be found at here. Here's a taste of some of the cultural activities.
'Murcia Eterna' Tourist Trails
In July, the 'Murcia Eterna' tourism and cultural project will offer three new tours.
Saturday July 2: Four-hour 'Following the Wall' tour of sections of the medieval wall, as well as the remains of a mosque and Muslim baths.
Thursday July 7: Three-hour 'Camino de la Acequia' tour of the hydraulic network and infrastructures of the Vega Media del Segura, along with a walk through the different natural and heritage areas through which the Acequia La Aljufía runs.
Thursday July 14: 'Following the Wall'.
Open museums
The city's museums and exhibition halls will display new exhibitions and different programmed activities. The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea 'Cárcel Vieja' opens its doors from 10am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday with its first exhibition 'Muros Etéreos' (Ethereal Walls) offering the public the chance to find out more about the facilities of this historic building after the refurbishment of phase 1.
The Almudí Palace, like last year, will reopen in August, hosting 'Hana' by Miwako Yamaguchi in the Upper Hall and 'Babel, the pieces of a tower' in the Columns Hall, a project by Reactivos Culturales. Both exhibitions can be seen until the end of August and the beginning of September.
The Museo de la Ciudad hosts 'El tiempo transformado' (Time transformed) with guided tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12 noon by prior reservation at museodelaciudad.murcia.es.
At the Museum of Science and Water, design enthusiasts can enjoy 'From Spain With Design, Territory and Identity', an international exhibition that is stopping off in Murcia until September 14 showcasing Spanish design.
Los Molinos del Río, Pilar Morales is exhibiting another Reactivo Cultural, 'From Inside Project', a photographic exhibition with the sea as the protagonist.
The Ramón Gaya Museum is offering daily guided tours and an array of exhibition. For more information visit museo.ramon.gaya@ayto-murcia.es or call 968 221 099.
