ARCHIVED - Murcia tries to attract British tourists with scenic bicycle routes
The Region of Murcia has over 100 routes aimed at cycling tourists
The Ministry of Tourism, Presidency and Sports in Murcia is attempting to use bicycle routes and lanes to attract British tourists to the Region.
A tourism campaign has been launched in collaboration with the sporting federation British Cycling, and is aimed at British tourists. The campaign will be in effect until November, with the hope of reaching around 6 million potential tourists.
The ‘cycle-tourism’ sector in Region of Murcia is currently in a state of expansion and the region offers several routes, both on roads, mountain areas and coastal areas, such as the Mediterranean route in Águilas, which is part of the European network of bicycle routes.
Sierra Espuña, a 25,000-hectare natural park in the north-west of the region, is home to two of these bicycle routes: the Espuroad (240 kilometres) and the Espubike (146 kilometres).
The Region is also pushing different services and tourist attractions along the more than 100 routes, including accommodation and hospitality services targeted at cycling tourists.
