ARCHIVED - Murcia registers third largest rental price increase in Spain
The cost of renting a home in the Region of Murcia increased by 6.4% last year
The price of renting a home in the Region of Murcia soared by 6.4% last year, reaching 7.17 euros/m2 per month in December.
This is the third highest increase in all of Spain behind the Balearic Islands and La Rioja, which have both registered a jump of 6.5%.
By province, the annual increase registered in the Region occupies the eleventh position after Huelva, León, Badajoz, Alicante, Málaga, Palencia, Castellón, Almería, the Balearic Islands and La Rioja, while by capitals, Murcia is in ninth place, with an increase in 2021 of 7.40% and a price of 7.40 euros/m2.
The Region of Murcia isn’t alone in this phenomenon, however, as the average price of rentals has increased in 13 of the 17 autonomous communities in Spain. Despite skyrocketing inflation, none have risen by more than 10%, and Andalucía has seen the most modest boost at just 0.1%, followed by Catalonia (0.4%), Aragón (1.6%) and the Canary Islands (2.4%).
Interestingly, in four communities, which reported double digit annual increases until recently, the rental prices actually dropped in 2021: Madrid (-3.4%), Navarra (-1.7%), Castilla-La Mancha (-1%) and the Basque Country (0.4%).
Overall in Spain last year, Catalonia was the most expensive place to rent a house or apartment, with each square metre costing a whopping 14.06 euros per month, knocking Madrid into second position with 13.62 euros.
