ARCHIVED - Murcia police caught this car speeding and what they found inside is just bizarre
A high-speed chase from El Valle up to Murcia city resulted in a surprising 320kg find
In the early hours of this morning, Friday January 14, Local Police in Murcia noticed a car with a suspiciously low rear end speeding along the A-30 highway near the little village of Los Martinez Del Puerto, not far from the El Valle Golf Resort.
Suspecting that the driver might be carrying large amounts of heavy illicit goods inside, perhaps cocaine or marijuana, the police tried to pull the car over for speeding, but the driver put their foot down and tried to escape in a dramatic high-speed chase.
The chase continued all the way up to Espinardo on the other side of the Murcia city, where police located the vehicle in question abandoned and the driver nowhere in sight.
It was then that they looked inside the car, and what they saw left them puzzled and surprised.
The car contained 320kg of fresh artichokes. It is thought that the vegetables were stolen from a Murcia farm or packing plant.
Artichokes are one of the main crops grown by Murcia farmers, and can fetch a fair price on the black market.
Police are now investigating where the artichokes came from, if they are in fact stolen, and will try to catch the dangerous driver who got away.
