ARCHIVED - Lowest number of daily cases in more than three weeks: Murcia Covid update January 24
The incidence rate in the Region of Murcia has also gone down over the weekend
The lowest daily figure recorded in the Region since January 2, combined with the WHO’s prediction that the sixth wave of coronavirus in Spain could be over soon, raises hope that Murcia could finally be getting the pandemic under control.
Several other Covid indicators, such as the cumulative incidence rate and the number of hospitalisations, have also improved over the weekend.
New cases
This Monday’s update, January 24, detailed just 1,621 cases on Sunday, which is the lowest figure since the beginning of the month, when 949 cases were reported on January 2, and a large decrease from last Sunday’s number (2,397). Over the rest of the weekend, 4,357 cases were registered on Friday and 2,803 on Saturday.
Active cases
After decreasing steadily for the past week or so, the number of active cases in the Region has dropped by almost 5,000 over the weekend and now stands at 37,520.
Hospitalisations
Hospital admissions have decreased to 619 in the latest update, but Covid patients in intensive care units have increased from 77 on Friday January 21 to 81. These are also 36,901 Covid-positive patients in self-isolation at home.
Recoveries
Over the weekend, 13,395 people have been given the all-clear from the virus; 256,008 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Fatalities
While other indicators look to be decreasing, the number of daily fatalities is one figure which is remaining stable, with four further Covid-related deaths reported on Sunday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 1,939. The victims were two men and two women aged 51, 74, 85 and 95.
Incidence rate
Both the 7-day and the 14-day incidence rates have decreased since Friday’s update, albeit only slightly. The cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants has decreased from 5,399.4 to 5,225.5, according to Murcia Salud, while the 7-day rate has dropped by around 200 points to 2,313.1 cases per 100,000 residents.
Vaccines
Medical staff have administered 17,322 jabs since Friday bringing the total number of vaccines given in the Region to 2,917,490. For more information on how to book a Covid vaccine, including a booster jab, click here.
