ARCHIVED - Lowest number of Covid patients in hospital so far in 2021: Alicante Covid update May 14
From Monday 133 vaccination points across the region will vaccinate half a million people next week
The latest official update issued on May 14 by the regional government reports 153 new positive coronavirus diagnoses in the region and 74 in the province of Alicante. The current daily average of Covid cases over the past 7 days is now 114.57, a noticeable drop compared to the 7-day average this time last month on April 14, which was 163.14.
The latest figure of 74 new cases in Alicante brings the 7-day average to 36.57 in the province and the number of coronavirus patients in hospital has also decreased significantly since 2020, as there are currently 42 people hospitalized in the province, whereas last December there were over 500 Covid patients, highlighting how significantly the situation has improved this year.
In addition, the regional bulletin published on Friday reports just one death caused by Covid in Alicante and five in total in the region of Valencia.
In the Comunidad Valenciana, the cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days has dropped to 31.22. However, it could take weeks or even months before the region drops into the “new normal” zone (below 25), as the number of new cases reported is remaining at a level which will make it difficult to bring the rate down much further.
The regions in Spain with the highest cumulative incidence rates, according to the latest update, are the Basque Country (334.97), Madrid (256.35) and Áragon (248.84), and the regions with the lowest rates, after Valencia, are the Balearics (49.42), and the Region of Murcia (63.46).
The regional government remains committed to the vaccination campaign as being the major weapon to bring the incidence rate down and from Monday will operate 133 vaccination points across the region, capable of vaccinating 400 people every three minutes and delivering 500,000 vaccines a week.
