ARCHIVED - Lorca neighbourhood gets a new community space for barbecues and events
The new multipurpose site in La Campana has been built over the old football pitch
The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has inaugurated a new leisure area in La Campana, complete with a park and a multipurpose court.
The new community space has been built on a plot of land of 5,300m2, with room for the residents of La Campana to play sports on the 1,300m2 multipurpose sports court. There is also a playground and a green area with trees and automated irrigation system, with the aim of creating a new ‘green lung’ for the town with all the benefits that this entails, as well as a barbecue area with benches.
The work has been carried out on the site of the old football pitch, located next to the Social Centre of the district.
Mayor Mateos announced that this new area will be named José Gabarrón “El Chupao”, in honour of the local resident who donated the land necessary for the new construction, following a proposal made by the Neighbourhood Association of La Campana.
He also stressed that “this is another example of our commitment to the improvement and maintenance and the creation of new services in our districts, as well as the creation of new services to ensure the welfare of all the residents of our municipality and to provide them with leisure areas.”
