ARCHIVED - Lorca inaugurates new Local Police Headquarters
The new state-of-the-art station is located in the San Cristóbal neighbourhood of Lorca

Lorca mayor Diego José Mateos had the proud opportunity to officiate at the opening of the new Local Police headquarters on Wednesday March 22, which are now located in the San Cristóbal neighbourhood.
At the event, Mr Mateos announced that "we inaugurated the new Local Police Headquarters in the San Cristóbal neighbourhood, one of the great commitments of this government team on which we have been working for a long time and that, finally, today is already a reality”.
The headquarters, he said, is a service that never should have disappeared from the area and its resurgence represents the “firm commitment by this City Council to attend to the requests and demands of our neighbours".
Having the barracks in the heart of the district should offer more security to residents, he added.
The state-of-the-art facility is spread over three floors and includes changing rooms, a gun rack, parking for police vehicles, offices, the reception of Local Police services and customer service offices. Around 30 agents of the Citizen Security Intervention Group (GISC), the Unit for Local Protection and Attention to Women (UPLAM), the Tutor Police and the motorised unit of the Local Police will also be stationed at San Cristóbal.
“The new barracks will serve a population of more than 15,000 Lorca men and women from the neighbourhoods of San Diego, Los Angeles and Apolonia and the area of Avenida Europa and the Rio deputation. In addition, its strategic location, in the Francisco Méndez Civic Centre, will allow a faster reaction even in the centre and old part of the city,” the mayor explained.
Mr Mateos concluded that "from the Government team we have worked to start up the Police headquarters in San Cristóbal, resulting in an improvement in the security of our municipality to continue decentralising services and providing the best benefits to all Lorca residents and Lorca, regardless of where they reside".
