ARCHIVED - Lorca harvests olives to distribute oil to groups in need
The valuable olive oil will be dispensed to vulnerable groups throughout Lorca
For the third consecutive year, Lorca City Council workers are harvesting olives from trees in the local parks and gardens and will distribute the oil to different groups throughout the municipality.
Workers from Acciona and Actúa are currently picking the fruit in the park next to the San Diego train station, Plaza Carruajes, Avenida Santa Clara, Plaza de Santo Domingo, San José Park, Calvario, Peñica and Plaza del Caño, as well as from city gardens in Zarzadilla de Totana and Purias.
Describing the enormous undertaking, the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, Antonio Navarro, explained that the tradition stands “as a gesture of solidarity with the most needy groups.”
