ARCHIVED - Lorca Crossed Horse Fair this weekend: October 23 and 24
The historic event held in Lorca, Murcia, dates back to the 1400s
A new edition of the Crossed Horse Fair is taking place this weekend in the municipality of Lorca, following the success of the Fericab 2021 fair last week.
On October 23 and 24, access to the ‘Huerto de la Rueda’ fairground will be completely free for both the professionals participating in the fair and the visitors. Horse-lovers can stop by to take a look at several equine specimens on display at the event, of which some will also be up for sale.
The event dates back to the reign of Juan II of Castilla (1406 to 1454) when the monarch bestowed Lorca with the Royal Fair, also known as the Beasts’ Fair, as a reward for the bravery of Lorca natives against the Saracen troops.
Lorca hosted the Royal Fair until the mid-nineties, when the event was rebranded as the Crossed Horse Fair, which has been taking place in the municipality since 1995.
