June 29-July 1 Javea International Festival
The free, intercultural festival returns to the Marina Alta town, Alicante, after a 3-year hiatus due to Covid
Months of preparation will culminate in Javea's much-anticipated International Festival later this month, a colourful celebration of the town's multiple cultures that revolves around culinary delights and music.
The festival will make a welcome return from June 29 to July 1 following a three-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers have put their disappointment at having to cancel previous events behind them, and are planning a festival to top all others, according to association president, Raúl de Lope.
"We anticipate a great festival, representatives from all countries are very excited about this union of great gastronomy and cultural fair," he said.
The three-day celebration of cultures will take place in Avenida Augusta, with free admission. Doors open at 6pm each day.
Nineteen countries will be taking part (England, Holland, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba, Chile, Algeria, Spain, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Brazil, Italy, Uruguay, Poland, Colombia, Germany and Switzerland) and the Balcón al Mar fire brigade and organisations such as the Red Cross will also be setting up their usual stalls.
In the central area there will be a stage where different musical, dance and folklore performances will take place.
Javea Mayor, José Chulvi, has urged "all residents and visitors to come and enjoy the international festival", adding that "Javea is a great example of coexistence between cultures with a census in which there are people of more than 80 nationalities".
