ARCHIVED - July 9 Peter Bernstein & Mark Whitfield Organ Quartet and The Andrés Barros Trio at the San Javier Jazz Festival
A tribute to Wes Montgomery and the exciting jazz-flamenco pianist Andrés Barrios at the 24th San Javier Jazz Festival
PETER BERNSTEIN AND MARK WHITFIELD
Two greats of the American jazz guitar, Peter Bernstein and Mark Whitfield, absolute masters of their instrument and with an impressive discography cementing their respective careers, meet in this project promoted by San Javier Jazz to commemorate the figure of the legendary guitarist Wes Montgomery.
The song “We All Remember Wes” was written by Stevie Wonder and popularized by George Benson, and this event recalls the famous trios of Wes Montgomery in his time on the Riverside label with organist Melvin Rhyne: a great backdrop for the virtuosity of Peter Bernstein and Mark Whitfield on guitar.
THE ANDRÉS BARRIOS TRIO with special guest Manuel Lombo
The young pianist Andrés Barrios, born in Utrera (Seville), is one of the most brilliant exponents of jazz-flamenco fusion among the new generation of pianists, this genre being the most important of Spain to jazz.
Winner of the prestigious Filón award for best instrumentalist at the 2018 Festival del Cante de Las Minas, Andrés is a spectacular pianist with an exceptional sense of harmony and rhythm, as can be seen on his 2019 album “Al sur del Jazz”.
With a luxury trio that brings together two of the most sought-after musicians on the Spanish jazz scene, the Cuban double bassist Reinier Elizarde "Negrón" and the Iranian drummer Shayan Fathi, Andrés Barrios invites special guest Manuel Lombo, one of the most admired Andalusian singers, for the last part of the concert. This includes a small tribute to the recently departed Armando Manzanero.
The concert begins at 22.00 in the open-air Auditorio Municipal with tickets priced at 20 euros. Season tickets are also available: for bookings and further information click here.
