July 1 Alfredo Rodríguez Trio and Mamas Gun at the 25th San Javier Jazz Festival
A double bill of Cuban and British jazz and soul at the Parque Almansa auditorium in San Javier
ALFREDO RODRÍGUEZ TRIO
Born in Havana, the prestigious Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodríguez comes from a family of musicians: his father Alfredo Rodríguez (better known as Alfredito) has been a popular singer, actor and television presenter in Cuba for decades.
Alfredo Junior trained at the conservatories of Havana and at the "Instituto Superior de Arte" and when he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2007 the great producer Quincy Jones fell in love his artistry, sponsoring him since then as his career has progressed. His concerts are a compendium of beauty, mystery and rhythm, with all the flavour of Cuban music, and in San Javier he is accompanied by Michael Olivera on drums and Yarel Hernández on electric bass.
MAMAS GUN
Last year’s San Javier Jazz festival brought the first concert in Spain of the group Young Gun Silver Fox, and this year we see another facet of their brilliant singer Andy Platts. This time it is the prestigious British soul-pop group Mamas Gun, whose name comes from Erika Badu's second album.
Mamas Gun has already released five albums, gaining a superb reputation not only in Europe and the US but also in Japan and Korea for their honest and happy soul, drawing on the music of the 70s and showing the influences of stars like Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye.
The second concert of the 2023 San Javier Jazz Festival begins at 22.00 in the open-air Auditorio Municipal with tickets priced at 20 euros. Season tickets are also available: for bookings and further information click here.
