ARCHIVED - Javea police to clamp down on night parking in pedestrian areas
A campaign has been launched in the Marina Alta town to monitor illegal parking in the town centre
The Local Police in Javea have vowed to take a tough stance on the illegal parking of vehicles in the town centre's pedestrian areas at night.
In recent weeks, a number of vehicles have been "repeatedly and habitually" parked in zones set aside for pedestrians and bikes, "hindering access and threatening public safety", according to the police.
To try to combat the problem, a campaign will be launched this week to monitor and supervise the proper use of pedestrian areas in the town centre, especially at night.
"This campaign, which will result in fines, aims to improve respect for spaces and coexistence after detecting that there are vehicles that are repeatedly and habitually parked at night in streets classified as pedestrian areas. This is in breach of municipal regulations and hinders access and the safe passage of pedestrians and those with reduced mobility, as well as deteriorating the road," added the local police.
