ARCHIVED - Injured schoolgirl in sea rescue off El Campello coast
11-year-old girl hurt on board a boat in Alicante province.
The maritime service has rescued an 11-year-old girl who was injured at sea after being thrown across a boat by a wave whilst sailing with parents off the coast of El Campello, in the Alicante comarca.
On Saturday afternoon, July 24, the sea and rescue service received an "urgent" call for assistance after the child sustained cuts to her leg after the force of the wave off Muchavista beach thrust her on top of a bow cleat, a device used for securing ropes.
The girl's father and skipper of the boat stemmed the blood flow with bandages while they waited for help, before the maritime rescue service transported the child to El Campello Yacht Club and she was taken by ambulance to San Juan Hospital.
The Local Police, Guardia Civil and the lifeguard also assisted with the rescue.
