ARCHIVED - Incidence rate continues to rise in Alicante province: Covid Update July 27
14-day cumulative incidence rate rises to 443 per 100,000 inhabitants.
As the fifth wave of the pandemic gathers momentum, the cumulative incidence rate continues to rise in Alicante province, with larger municipalities in the Marina Baixa and Marina Alta above the "extreme risk" (500 cases) threshold.
In the latest update from the Valencia region's Ministry of Health, 1,100 new daily infections were recorded in Alicante on Monday, exceeding 1,000 for the first time since early March, pushing the incidence rate to 443 cases per 100,000 inhabitants - up from 289 a week ago.
And hospital pressure is mounting with a surge in admissions, with 140 Covid patients currently being treated on wards in the province - the highest number of admissions since February 14 - with 23 critically ill people in ICU, another high not seen since mid-April.
All of this data has seen the incidence rate reach 443, though this is still below the Valencia region's average of 556 cases per 100,000 which is in turn lower than the national average of 700.
Marina Alta: The biggest leap has been in Denia, where the cumulative rate has risen 10 points per day since Friday, and now stands at 799 per 100,000 cases, well above the province average.
Meanwhile in Calpe, though the rate of infections has slowed down slightly, the rate is still a worrying 1,389. In the rest of the comarca: the rate in Javea now stands at 757; Teulada-Moraira (709); and Benissa (629).
Marina Baixa: The situation along the coastal comarca remains delicate with the rate in Benidorm reaching 782; Alfaz del Pi (594); Altea (576); Villajoyosa (526).
Vega Baja - Overall, the average incidence rate stands at 290 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: Callosa de Segura (471); Torrevieja (312); Orihuela (261); Guardamar del Segura (259); Pilar de Horadada (152).
Baix Vinalopo: Santa Pola (543); and Elche town (351).
Alicante comarca: Alicante city (649); El Campello (515); Mutxamel (499); and Alcoy (497)
Elche-Crevillente district: 164 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
