ARCHIVED - Hero firefighters save trapped Orihuela dog from drowning in pitch black conditions
When rescue services arrived in the Vega Baja town the animal had hardly any strength left
A dog that had fallen into a pond located in a rural area of Orihuela was rescued by firefighters this week just in the nick of time to stop it drowning.
The emergency services had been alerted after the desperate barking of the animal could be heard after it had fallen into the reservoir. It’s thought the dog couldn’t see where it was going because it was too dark and slipped into the open body of water.
A group of firefighters rushed to the scene, and one of them had to climb down using ropes to get close to the animal, which was not only very frightened, but was on the verge of exhaustion.
As the firefighters reported on their social networks, after the rescue, the dog was very happy and showed his affection to the people who had saved him.
