Heavy rain and wintry temperatures forecast for Murcia over the weekend: February 27-March 2
Carnival parades could be threatened as a storm brings significant rainfall for the start of March

A storm is set to hit the Region of Murcia this weekend, bringing heavy rain and a sharp drop in temperatures. The weather shift, forecasted by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), marks a stark contrast to the recent period of stability, with sunshine and highs of 20ºC giving way to overcast skies and wintry conditions.
The unsettled weather will coincide with Carnival celebrations in many municipalities, putting parade plans at risk.
A wet and wintry start to March
The squall is expected to move in from the southwest of Spain this Thursday February 27, initially affecting Andalucía before advancing towards the southeast of the peninsula. According to Meteored, the rain will intensify over the weekend, impacting the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.
Friday 28 will see a gradual increase in cloud cover, with rain expected in the afternoon. Aemet has issued a 90% probability of rainfall across the Region.
This pattern will continue over the weekend, with an 85–100% likelihood of rain on both Saturday March 1 and Sunday 2. Some areas, including Cartagena, may even experience thunderstorms.

Murcia weather forecast, Saturday March 1
Additionally, the Meteorological Association FrostSE predicts an accumulation of more than 25 litres per square metre in most of the Region of Murcia, except for parts of the Altiplano in the northeast.
Alongside the heavy rain, temperatures will drop significantly, reinforcing the wintry feel. Maximum temperatures will remain below 15ºC throughout the region, while minimum temperatures will hover around 10ºC in coastal areas and in central Murcia. In the northwest and Altiplano, minimums could reach as low as 5ºC.
Rain to persist into next week
The rain is not expected to clear at the start of next week. Aemet’s forecast suggests that the probability of rain will remain high across the Region of Murcia at least until Tuesday March 4. While weather conditions may evolve, there are currently no signs of sunshine or clear skies in the immediate future.
Residents and visitors should prepare for wet and chilly weather, particularly those planning to attend outdoor Carnival events. It is advisable to keep an eye on weather updates for any potential changes.
