ARCHIVED - Heavy rain and storms expected in Alicante and much of Spain
The Valencia region, Murcia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands will be most affected by the approaching DANA storm this week
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of “intense rainfall accompanied by storms” in Alicante and much of Spain over the next couple of days, moving firstly to the west of the country, and later to the north.
Torrential rain is expected to be “strong and persistent” in Alicante province, which is on yellow (risk) alert, as well as in Murcia today, Tuesday September 21, before moving towards the east of the Valencia region and the Balearic Islands.
From Wednesday, the rains will ease in intensity, and Aemet has forecast that by the end of the week, the DANA will begin to subside, although “during Thursday and Friday it is likely to remain in interior areas, the peninsula and the Balearic Islands”.

“The formation of a DANA in the northeast of the peninsula will complicate the weather in the peninsular Mediterranean slope and the Balearic Islands, with locally strong or very strong thundershowers. It is possible that the showers will extend more weakly to other areas of the peninsula from Wednesday, although it is still uncertain,” said Aemet in a statement.
