ARCHIVED - Half a million approved to repair storm damaged roads in Alicante
Rural roads were partially washed away during DANA storms on the Costa Blanca.
Alicante City Council has approved almost €482,000 to 'Repair the Camino Molineta' after several rural roads severely damaged by heavy rains last September and earlier this year.
In some cases, the land surrounding the roads was completely washed away, with other roads left structurally damaged and unsafe, "hindering normal pedestrian and vehicle traffic".
The works will be carried out on roads in Bacarot, Las Atalayas industrial estate, the La Vallonga and Lo Mollet areas, and the intersection with Camino Molineta and Cañada del Fenollar, and are expected to take three months.
"The deterioration caused by these rainstorms has produced dragging of the bases of roads, sinking pavements, sinkholes, ruts, cracks and breaks in asphalt pavement," says the local authority, adding that the 'Repair the Camino Molinta' project will "remedy these problems and leave them in the best possible conditions".
