ARCHIVED - Granada hosts first gluten free gastronomic route for coeliac sufferers
The event has been organised by Granada City Council and the Granada Coeliac Association (ACEGRA).
As Granada continues to open up to both tourists and locals alike, the city council of Granada city, in the province of Granada, Andalusia, has announced the first Gluten Free Gastronomic Route of Granada in a bid to promote local restaurants and raise awareness for those suffering with coeliac disease.
Throughout this month, between May 7 and 30, several of Granada’s restaurants will be offering up gluten free treats, including Aparicio’s, Mercedes Isa Pastry, and Lu Cuchara de Carmela, La Autentica Carmela and El Pescaito de Carmela.
The establishments are offering a mixture of tapas and set meals, details of which, together with a map, can be found at tourist info outlets in the city and participating establishments.
The restaurants getting involved are part of Spain’s largest gluten free network and can be identified by the Federation of Coeliac Associations Spain (FACE) signs outside. Those visiting can use the Facemovil mobile app, which offers an extensive gluten free menu throughout the year, as well as the tapas suitable for coeliacs.
To encourage locals and visitors to get involved with the Gluten Free Gastronomic Tour of Granada, organisers are offering brochures which participants can use to collect stickers earned from buying a drink to be entered into a raffle.
The Granada Coeliac Association (ACEGRA) is an independent organisation founded more than 10 years ago with the aim of improving the quality of life and equality for people with coeliac disease in the Granada area.
