ARCHIVED - From May 17 Valencian health authorities will begin vaccination of 55-59 year-olds
70-72-year olds are being inoculated in mass vaccination centres in the three provinces of the Valencia region, while the 72-74 year-olds are being vaccinated in health centres
By next week (May 10) everyone between the ages of 70 and 74 in the Comunidad Valenciana will have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine and from May 17 the regional Health authorities will start the vaccination process for the 55 to 59-year-olds, with around 100,000 doses currently reserved for this age group.
All those aged 70 to 74, who are currently being given appointments, will have received at least one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine by next week, and for those who receive the monodose Janssen vaccine their immunization will be complete.
The 70 to 72-year-olds are being given appointments via SMS and are receiving their jabs in mass vaccination centres, while the 73 to 74-year-olds are receiving appointments via phone calls and being given their vaccines in local health centres.
The regional government’s objective is to have vaccinated everyone over the age of 60 by the end of May.
The 60 to 65-year-olds are currently receiving their first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine across the region.
Once all the population over 60 have received their vaccine, the health authorities will continue vaccinating the 50 to 59-year-olds, who will be notified via SMS or phonecall. The vaccination process for people aged 50 to 55 is expected to start in June, while the process for 55 to 59-year-olds will start from May 17.
On the other hand, essential workers under the age of 60 who have already received one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine are currently awaiting news of when they will receive their second dose, and if it will be AstraZeneca; this decision will affect more than 50,000 residents in the Comunidad Valenciana, although the national health ministry refuses to be pressured into making a decision and is waiting for the results of research from the Carlos III Institute in Madrid following the thrombosis problems which have prompted some countries to withdraw the vaccine altogether.
