ARCHIVED - Free tourist routes throughout July and August in Orihuela
In the absence of traditional Moors and Christians festivities in the Vega Baja, a series of tourist routes are planned.
Determined to celebrate Orihuela's heritage in the absence of the traditional Moors and Christians parades and festivities, this year, the town council has put together a program of free Tourist Routes for July and August.
The weekend routes, which start at 8.30pm, are as follows:
Friday, July 9 - Reconquista (period in the history of medieval Spain), departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Saturday, July 10 - La Armengola (fictional character in the history of Orihuela), departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, July 16 - La Armengola, departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Saturday, July 17 - Reconquista, departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, July 23 - Tribute to poet Miguel Hernandez, departing from Santo Domingo College.
Saturday, July 24 - El Juglar y las Historias de su Hogar (stories from home), departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, July 30 - Palacios (palaces), meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Saturday, July 31 - La Menina de Velazquez (celebration of art), meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, August 6 - Monumental, meet at the Puerta de Olma next to Santa Domingo College.
Saturday, August 7 - Modernista, meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, August 13 - Tribute to poet, Miguel Hernandez, departing from Santo Domingo College.
Saturday, August 14 - La Menina de Velazquez (celebration of art), meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, August 20 - Legado Andalusia (Andalusia Legacy), meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Saturday, August 21 - El Juglar y las Historias de su Hogar (stories from home), departing from Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Friday, August 27 - Palacios (palaces), meet at Orihuela Tourist Information Centre.
Saturday, August 28 - Ruta Teatralizado la tentacion de velazquez (Theatrical route 'The Temptation of Velazquez), meet at Santo Domingo College.
All the tours are free, but there are limited places, so anybody interested in taking part is asked to reserve a place through orihuelaturistica.es.
