ARCHIVED - Extension project at Mazarron cemetery will include over 2,000 new final resting spots
The Town Hall in Mazarrón, Murcia, is extending their cemetery to meet the municipal demand
The extension project at the Puerto de Mazarrón Municipal Cemetery is now fully underway and will include over 1,500 new niches as well as underground plots to accommodate the municipal demand for burials.
Around 1.2 million euros have been invested into the project, which aims to extend the cemetery by 6,307 square feet by occupying an unused plot to the left of the structure.
In addition to creating better access to the cemetery and building bathrooms and storage facilities, the extension project will also include a total of 1635 niches, 13 pantheons (with room for 9 niches each), 420 graves and 408 columbariums, which are being increasingly requested.
The budget for the extension is 1,235,964 euros, of which 459,852 euros have been provided by the General Directorate of local Administration while the remaining 776,112 euros were provided by the Town Hall.
