ARCHIVED - Daily cases in Murcia near 500 in latest report: Covid update December 3
One further death has been reported in the Region of Murcia as cases continue to rise
Unfortunately, the number of daily Covid cases and, consequently, the incidence rate continue to increase in the Region of Murcia, and this rise has already having repercussions for the hospitality sector, with several bars, restaurants and other venues already reporting cancellations.
Many companies and businesses are reportedly cancelling their Christmas meals due to the increasing cases and the 30% and 50% indoor capacity restrictions now in place in several Murcian municipalities mean that bar and restaurants are struggling to juggle their Christmas bookings.
Daily and active cases
The daily cases reported on Thursday December 2 almost surpassed the 500 threshold, coming in at 468 in the past 24 hours. And the number of active cases also continues to rise on a daily basis; the figure has increased by 159 in the past day and now stands at 3,239.
Of the 468 cases 174 were registered in the muncipality of Murcia, 87 were in Cartagena, 20 in Yecla, 19 in Jumilla, 13 in Molina de Segura, 11 in Caravaca de la Cruz, ten in Alhama de Murcia, ten in Lorca, ten in Totana, ten in La Unión, seven in Abarán, seven in Alcantarilla, seven in Torre Pacheco, six in Archena, six in Cieza, six in Las Torres de Cotillas, five in Fortuna, five in San Javier, five in Santomera, and the rest were distributed in the remaining municipalities.
Hospitalisations
This is another Covid stat that is on the rise, but, thankfully, the rate of hospitalisation is not increasing anywhere near as fast as the number of cases. There are 101 Covid patients in the Region’s hospitals, of whom 21 are in intensive care (two more in the past 24 hours). There are also 3,138 people with Covid who are currently at home in self-isolation.
Fatalities
One more victim has died due to the virus since the previous update, a 75-year-old man from Health Area I (West Murcia), bringing the total death toll up to 1,771.
Recoveries
In the past day, 207 people have been given the all-clear from Covid; 142,987 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Incidence rate
The cumulative incidence rate in the Region of Murcia continues to increase alarmingly week by week and now stands at 270.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days and 158.6 in the past seven days. This time last week, the 14-day rate stood at 187.7 and the 7-day rate was 110.7, showing a 40% increase in both rates in just one week.
Some of the highest incidence rates in the Region can be found in Albudeite (800), Campos del Rio (639.8), Torre Pacheco (617) and Cartagena (379.9).
Vaccines
As of December 2, 2,291,296 Covid vaccines have been administered in the Region of Murcia, which means that 92.07% of the population have received at least one Covid jab, while 82.82% have been double-jabbed, or have received a Janssen mono-dose.
