ARCHIVED - Costa Calida hotels reach 79 per cent occupancy in August
The price of an overnight stay in Murcia hotels decreased by 7.61% last month
Hotels in the Region of Murcia reported an occupancy rate of 67.5% in August, compared to the national average of 65.1%, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Meanwhile, the figure for hotel occupancy at the weekend was even higher; 72.80% in Murcia and 68.63% nationally.
The Costa Cálida received almost 80,000 tourists in August; 67,595 Spanish residents and 11,014 foreigners, occupying 78.55% of all available accommodation on the coast, a figure which rises to 82.98% at the weekend, with an average stay of 3.4 nights.
Of the 375,368 overnight stays recorded in the Region during August, 315,955 corresponded to Spanish travellers and the remaining 59,413 to foreign travellers.
On a national level, overnight stays in hotels throughout Spain exceeded 34.4 million, 103.8% more than in 2020. However, if the data is compared with August 2019, overnight stays decreased by 26.7%.
As for hotel prices in the Region, the average daily rate was 80.02 euros in August, which means that Murcia is, along with the overseas enclave of Ceuta, the only region to decrease its prices compared to the previous year (7.61% decrease in Murcian hotels).
On the other hand, the Hotel Price Index (HPI) in Murcia stood at 96.97 euros while the Spanish HPI was 127.74 euros. Another statistic, the income per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy of hotel establishments, reached 52.15 euros in the Region, compared to 78.14 euros nationally.
