ARCHIVED - Costa Blanca announces plans for first-ever direct air link with the US
Alicante Provincial Council is already working with tour operators and agencies to establish a connection with America
Hopes are high Alicante could have a direct air link with America for the first-time ever in the not too distant future.
President of the provincial council, Carlos Mazón, revealed this week that the authority is working with tour operators, agencies and tourist associations in the region to establish, for the first time in the province's history, a direct air link between Alicante-Elche airport and the United States.
The announcement was made on Wednesday January 18 following the opening of Madrid's International Tourism Fair's (Fitfur) 'Costa Blanca Day', during which he described the project as "one of the main strategic axes of the Provincial Tourist Board for 2023, a key year in the revival of travel".
"We have decided to go directly for the North American market because there is still no direct line between the United States and the Costa Blanca, and we are going to work to achieve this," said the president.
Mazón assured the press and public that "the American public will discover that Alicante has a very high quality of services, a base port for cruise ships, one of the best archaeological museums in the world, residential and language tourism for students", as well as being one of the favourite destinations for the British and other Europeans".
"This air connection would be a great leap in quality, and make Alicante a great reference point. We have come to Fitur to play hard and right now our greatest potential market is the American market.
"We want to take advantage of the best opportunities for Alicante province and the entire Costa Blanca. We come with extraordinary ambition and are constantly improving our capacity, our offerings and our ability to establish the most appropriate tourism strategies," promised Mazón.
At the same tourism fair, neighbouring Region of Murcia representatives announced that Corvera Airport has set its sights of the UK, Italy and France for summer 2023.
