ARCHIVED - Cartagena Police rescue a 21 month old child trapped in a car
The mother of the little girl in the municipality of Cartagena had locked her keys inside the vehicle
Early on Wednesday morning, July 28, the Local Police of Cartagena rescued a 21-month-old little girl who had been locked inside the family car in the urbanisation Residencial Buenos Aires de Molinos Marfagones, according to an official statement.
The distraught mother of the child had left her keys inside and didn’t have a spare set. Aware of the rising temperatures which were forecast to reach 30 degrees on Wednesday, and with her daughter becoming distressed in the car, the woman called the Local Police of Cartagena.
In the summer months in particular, temperatures inside a locked car can rise rapidly, and the situation can quickly become life-threatening for an infant. Earlier this month, a car in Albatera in the Vega Baja of the Alicante province overheated in the scorching July temperatures and burst into flames. Thanks to the rapid response of the firefighters the situation was contained and nobody was injured.
With no alternative way into the vehicle, officers were forced to break the driver’s window, which was the furthest away from the child, and she was reunited unharmed with her relieved mother.
