ARCHIVED - Cartagena Jazz Festival surpasses pre-pandemic levels of popularity
The 41st edition of the event in Cartagena this month is hailed by all concerned as a great success
The 41st edition of the Cartagena Jazz Festival, which ended on Sunday November 20 with the show by Los Mambo Jambo, marked a step up from the popularity of the last few years after attendance figures at the concerts rose even higher than they were before the Covid-19 pandemic, due largely to a new structure being adopted for the events as well as the quality of the acts performing over the three-week period.
By bringing concert times forward it is reported that the organizers succeeded in providing a boost for local bars and restaurants, according to Councillor David Martínez Noguera, who expressed his total satisfaction with the way the festival has been run in 2022.
Among the stars performing in Cartagena during November have been Andrea Motis, Zenet, Chucho Valdés, Al Di Meola, Kenny Garrett and Seun Kuty, superbly supported by the Iván pianists ‘Melón’ Lewis, Chico Pérez and Moisés P. Sánchez, but special mention is made in the summary of the festival of Lady Blackbird, whose appearance in Cartagena was her first in Spain.
