ARCHIVED - Cartagena celebrates its first ever beach wedding
Marriage celebrations are now permitted on 16 Cartagena beaches
Domingo and Sofía became the first ever couple to tie the knot on a Cartagena beach in a windswept ceremony officiated by Mayor Noelia Arroyo over the weekend. The drastic drop in temperature which hit the Region in the recent days did little to dampen the spirits of Levante beach’s first nuptials, although the bride and groom did have to take shelter from the rising gusts on a seaside terrace, where the ceremony went off without a hitch.
The newlyweds chose the Cabo de Palos shoreline as the setting for their big day, but they could have opted for any of the 16 beaches approved for wedding ceremonies in Cartagena on October 28.
Other stunning backdrops include La Manga del Mar Menor, Cala de Turco, three areas of Vivero beach, Cavanna beach and Ciervo beach, the beach of Galúa and Entremares beach. Other newly-approved options are Cala Reona (in Cabo de Palos), and San Ginés, Cala Cortina, Estrella de Mar beach in Los Urrutias, Mar de Cristal and Villas Caravaning beach.
The mayor pointed out that the new rules “will give a boost to tourism and hospitality in the municipality, creating more jobs, seasonally adjusting and diversifying the activity of the beaches.”
In fact, early estimations suggest that the wedding market could result in an economic impact of around 5 million euros in Cabo de Palos and La Manga, as well as the creation of 2,700 jobs.
Beach weddings aren’t allowed in Cartagena during the high season, which runs from June 15 until September 15.
