ARCHIVED - Cartagena campaign encourages pet owners to pick up after their dogs
The City Council of Cartagena will provide free water bottles and plastic bags to dog owners
The City of Cartagena has launched a new campaign for the month of September in an attempt to cut down on the amount of dog mess littering the streets. Under the slogan ‘A cleaner city. Will of all’, the initiative aims to deliver 2,000 water bottles and bag dispensers throughout the municipality to encourage pet owners to clean the urine and pick up excrement when walking their dogs.
In addition, marquees will be set up in Cartagena to show citizens the importance of carrying out “small civic gestures” so that the city continues to look its best, according to the Deputy Mayor, Manuel Padin.
The Cartagena City Council has vowed to toughen up on sanctioning dog owners who do not clean up after their pet, and starting in October fines will be rigorously imposed which can range anywhere from 100 to 1,500 euros.
