ARCHIVED - Calasparra police break up illegal party of more than 300 people
Harsh sanctions have been recommended for the people who organised and attended the party on the Calasparra border
In another incident 70 young people were caught at an open-air drinking session in a rural area of Fortuna after an illegal gathering had been organsied via social networks.
At 5am on Saturday morning, July 31, Local Police were called out to an illegal gathering of more than 300 people drinking and partying at the border between the municipalities of Calasparra and Moratalla.
Under current Covid restrictions, meetings between non-cohabitants are completely forbidden between the hours of 2am and 6am, and restricted to ten people at all other times. In a further measure to try and reduce the number of youngsters gathering in large numbers, the sale of alcohol in shops and petrol stations is banned between the hours of 10pm and 6am. Teenagers and young adults who have not been fully vaccinated continue to have the highest Covid incidence rate in the Region of Murcia.
According to Local Police sources, the revellers fled the scene of the party, which was alongside a rural road (see above), as the authorities arrived; nevertheless, officers managed to capture more than 50 of the party-goers and seized a large amount of alcohol. The police investigation revealed that the gathering had been organised by one of the attendees through social media and that he had charged an entrance fee. Officers have recommended harsh sanctions on the people they identified and are continuing to search for those who fled the scene.
