The tour is designed to provide an insiders view of Cartagena and lay the foundations for those who may wish to return and visit another time.
The tour starts in the port and promenade area, explaining why the whole history of Cartagena focuses around this natural harbour.
Here you will learn about the actual founders of the city, the Carthaginians from North Africa, and its later conquest by the Romans.
Following this, the route heads up one of the 5 hills of Cartagena to see the best views of the city. Walking down, the tour stops at a second viewing point from which the Roman Theatre can be seen from above.
At the bottom of the hill the route enters another site containing interesting roman mosaics and other remains of the Roman Theatre.
Following this, a welcome coffee is enjoyed, the Asiatico Coffee, a local recipe which has become famous in the area.
The tour will be resumed having a look at the remains of the most important ancient road in the Iberian Peninsula, the so called Via Augusta, before viewing the distinctive Modernist townhouses built during the boom years of the second half of the 19th century and the two first decades of the 20th.
The tour ends in the heart of the old city, facing the magnificent Palacio Consistorial, a good place from which to head off for something to eat.
