ARCHIVED - Bomb threat which grounded plane in A Coruña was a false alarm
The alarm was activated by an inmate wearing a goelocation bracelet
A plane travelling from Bilbao had to make an emergency landing on Friday morning, November 19 at A Coruña airport due to a false bomb threat. Flight V7 3538, operated by Volotea, landed at 7:25am with 106 passengers, including a baby, and six crew members on board. The Airbus 319 was immediately evacuated and moved to an isolated parking area where members of the Guardia Civil thoroughly searched the cabin and hold.
At 10.05am officers confirmed that the emergency incident had been terminated as no threat was discovered.

Police sources explained that the alarm was triggered by a geolocation device carried by a passenger, which other travellers may have mistaken for an explosive. It was later clarified that the suspect device was actually a bracelet worn by an inmate who was travelling to A Coruña on a travel permit. For some unknown reason, an app linked to the bracelet activated an alert that suggested the passenger was carrying a bomb.
After officials confirmed that it was a “false alarm”, all passengers were allowed to leave the airport, having been delayed until around 10.15am. The flight from A Coruña to Bilbao departed a short time later.
