ARCHIVED - Benidorm sets beach and cove opening hours for Costa Blanca bathing
Extended opening times have been set for the beaches and coves in the Costa Blanca resort of Benidorm in Alicante's Marina Baixa Comarca.
Sunseekers, bathers and walkers will now be able to use Benidorm's beautiful sandy beaches - including Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas - along with its array of coves from 7am to 10.30pm following the end of State of Alarm on May 9.
However, erring on the side of "caution" and in line with the "current evolution of the pandemic", the three main beaches will remain divided into plots of 16 square metres for a maximum of four people.
This can be extended to five people if one is under six-years-old.
The public is asked to use "authorised accesses" which are clearly marked, to wear "suitable footwear", and swim in designated zones.
"People can walk along the shoreline of the beach keeping the minimum safety distance of 1.5 meters, and the use of masks is mandatory," said Benidorm council.
But this is also regulated, and a six-metre wide strip close to the water's edge has been established for walking, in which only children under 10 years of age can sit, stand still or lay down.
And parts of the beaches have been zoned off for beach volleyball and football.
"We are convinced that the beach users will continue to demonstrate the same responsible behaviour they have shown at all times since our beaches were reopened in mid-June last year," said the council.
Benidorm has three major beaches: Playa de Levante (Platja de Llevant), Playa de Poniente (Platja de Ponent) and Playa de Mal Pas (Platja del Mal Pas); all of which have had a Blue Flag since 1987 - the highest quality standard recognised by the European Union.
The resort's five-kilometre stretch of golden sand coastline, intermingled with secluded coves is perfect for enjoying a refreshing swim, as well as - under normal circumstances - taking part in water sports, like scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, and more.
