ARCHIVED - Benidorm extends free parking for shoppers until Christmas
Shoppers who spend 20 euros or more in shops in the Marina Baixa, Alicante province, can park for free for an hour
Benidorm Council has extended a summer initiative which gives shoppers who spend at least 20 euros locally a free hour parking in seven central car parks until the end of the year.
The initiative, ‘BenidormMásCerca’, (Closer Benidorm), was launched on June 6 to kickstart trade and boost local business, and shoppers can save up to 2.10 euros.
More than 1,800 spaces are available at four public car parks in the town centre - Aigüera, Tomás Ortuño, Mercado and Ametlla del Mar - and Europe and Rufaza private car parks, after trade associations negotiated more spaces.
“The aim is to encourage consumption and economic revival of Benidorm, favouring parking, especially in the downtown area,” says the council. The campaign has now been joined by Colci cinemas which has added a further 264 spaces.
“There have been occasions when the car parks have been at 90% occupancy, and we will continue offering free parking until the end of December after reaching an agreement with local businesses,” said the council, adding: “This is a great initiative which also attracts shoppers to Benidorm, who will have discounted parking and the chance to spend a day or several hours purchasing in local and restaurants.”
