ARCHIVED - Arrival of summer tourists in Alicante leads to fall in unemployment
2,992 fewer people out of work in Alicante province due to "recovery" of domestic tourism.
Unemployment in Alicante province has been significantly reduced with the hospitality and service sector accounting for the largest increase in jobs, followed by industry.
According to data provided by the Ministry of Labour, July closed with a fall in unemployment of 2,922 people, compared to the previous month, leaving a total of 171,804 people still out of work.
The hotel, catering and tourist sector has seen the greatest surge in hiring, employing 2,879 people.
Hospitality is followed, though not closely, by the industrial sector, which has taken on 230 job seekers, and a further 209 people have found work, though the type of employment has not been confirmed.
However, things are not looking as promising in other fields just yet, with an additional 234 construction workers out of work, and a further 162 people normally employed in the agricultural sector are now job hunting.
A gender analysis of the data shows that unemployment continues to be concentrated among women, with 100,876 unemployed, compared to 70,926 men.
Though regionally, the province of Alicante has registered the greatest decrease in the Valencian region as a whole, with a drop in unemployment of 989 people in Castellón and a rise of 346 in Valencia province.
Meanwhile, the neighbouring Region of Murcia has reported its lowest unemployment rate for 13 years.
