ARCHIVED - Vain motorist speeds past Alicante radar 64 times to get best profile shot
The driver even stopped to pose near the speed camera in the Marina Alta town Ondara in Alicante province
A speeding motorist was so concerned that a camera installed on the roadside in Ondara might not get his best side, he careered past it at up to 147 kilometres per hour 64 times, later sharing his exploits on Instagram.
“I always come out looking like a fool,” said Ondara resident Alfredo D. H, known as Natural Boy on social media, in an attempt to justify his vain attempts to get the best photograph.
“These photos stay there, in the cloud or somewhere and can’t be taken lightly,” he reportedly told police who pulled him over as he was circling to make a 65th trip past the speed camera, adding: “It’s better to make sure [it’s a good photo] as sometimes these things fail.”
As he couldn’t check the photographic results immediately, Alfredo pulled a variety of poses, smiling for the camera, giving the thumbs up and drinking from a can. He even went so far as to ask two backpackers to take a group photo before inquiring as to whether Guardia Civil officers could filter the shots.
According to the police, “the guy said he wanted a photo with a good profile, like Julio Iglesias.”
Despite the driver’s attempts to humourise his dangerous antics, the fact remains that he was speeding and posed a threat to other drivers by stopping to take photographs, and will be fined.
