ARCHIVED - San Pedro del Pinatar town hall installs solar panels on town hall roof to save money
The council expects its new solar panels to cut the town hall’s electricity bills by more than 35 per cent.
San Pedro del Pinatar council has announced that 96 photovoltaic solar panels have been installed on the roof of the town hall building on Plaza Luis Molina in a move to lower electricity bills and help the environment.
The panels are expected to generate more than 53,000 kWh of power a year, which accounts for almost 40 per cent of the municipal building’s energy needs and should reduce its electricity bills by more than 35 per cent. 77 per cent of the energy the panels create will be used immediately, and the rest will be channelled into the network and electricity bills reduced accordingly via the excess energy compensation system.
The payback period for the installation will be five years, and the panels have an estimated useful lifespan of more than 25 years.
Not only will the new panels save tax payers’ money, but they will also help the environment as they will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 39 per cent with a reduction in direct emissions of 14,500 kilos per year.
