ARCHIVED - New cycle lane along the CV-870 in Orihuela finally gets the go-ahead
The project creates a cycle lane on the Orihuela to Montepinar area of the Vega Baja, Alicante province
The Town Hall in Orihuela has formalized a contract with the company Aglomerados del Sureste to start constructing the long-awaited bike lane on the CV-870 road from Orihuela to Montepinar.
The project has a total cost of nearly 230,000 euros and will take about three months to complete. The CV-870 road is currently used by many cyclists, either as a means of transport or for leisure use.
With this project, the Town Hall aims to join the stretch of road which runs between the existing roundabout, which gives access to Orihuela via the N-340, and the beginning of the CV-868, La Matanza road. This stretch of road falls under jurisdiction of the Alicante Provincial Council.
The bike lane will be placed along the left side of the CV-870, from the CN-340 until the roundabout which gives access to the CV-930.
In addition, the local council hopes to promote the use of non-mechanical travel in a bid to increase sustainable mobility and health amongst the residents. The main objective is to turn bicycles into one of the main pillars of future policies to search for more sustainable mobility.
Once the bicycle lane is built, it will blend in with the existing surroundings, while also also providing better safety for cyclists.
