ARCHIVED - Flying high: Corvera Airport scoops European award for quality of service
The Murcia airport has also been awarded a distinction for anti-Covid sanitary measures
Murcia's Corvera Airport has been named 'Best Medium-sized Airport in Europe' for a second year, a prestigious award bestowed by The Airports Council International (ACI) for its quality of service in the category of fewer than two million passengers per year.
In addition, the airport is flying high with the distinction 'Best Hygiene Measures' in Europe in recognition of the anti-Covid sanitary measures implemented by airport operations company Aena throughout the airport network.
The ACI awards reflect the opinion of airport users who have "highly valued" all the measures adopted over the last two years: sanitary controls, social distance markings, protective screens, hydrogel dispensers, mandatory use of masks and continuous passenger information.
"After two years of pandemic, the award recognises the continuous commitment of these airports to their passengers, adapting their facilities to the needs of their users with the aim of guaranteeing the health and safety of passengers and employees," said ACI in a statement.
ACI was set up in 1991 to promote collaboration between airports and other partners in the aviation sector, such as IATA (International Air Transport Association), or CANSO (International Air Navigation Service Providers Organisation), with the aim of "contributing to the development of a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly air transport system".
It currently has 717 members, operating 1,950 airports in 185 countries.
