ARCHIVED - Applying for an EU digital Covid passport in the Valencia region
The European Union’s Covid passport comes into force on Thursday July 1 and 2.7 million have already been issued in Spain.
The Valencia region began issuing EU Digital Covid certificates, or 'green card' from June 7, to "safely facilitate the free movement within the EU during the pandemic", and they can be obtained digitally free of charge.
The health department has created a specific website to apply and applicants from the region's provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon will need their SIP health card number, data of birth and will be asked to confirm their identity with a code sent by SMS.
Applications can also be made via the GVA + Salud app.
The certificate is free, "safe and accessible to the entire population in Valencia region", and "guarantees travel throughout the European Union".
To request a Covid passport, you must have received at least one dose of the vaccine, have undergone a diagnostic test for Covid or have recovered from the virus at least 180 days before travelling.
In principle, holders of an EU Digital Covid Certificate should be exempt from restrictions on free movement within Europe, so Members States shouldn't impose additional travel restrictions "unless they are necessary and proportionate to safeguard public health".
But it's advisable to check travel requirements of each country before travelling.
