ARCHIVED - Andalusia Covid update September 24: incidences fall below 100 in all provinces
Hospital pressure in Andalucía is in decline but a further 14 fatalities have been reported
The latest data released by the regional health authorities in Andalucía show that an additional 521 new coronavirus infections were recorded on Friday September 24, an increase of 129 cases compared with the previous day but a reduction of 42 infections on the same day last week.
In relation to the rest of this week so far, 392 cases were recorded on Thursday, 468 on Wednesday, 292 and Tuesday (the lowest figure since March 30) and 528 on Monday, so the data is fluctuating, something which Covid experts would predict as the country eases out of the fifth wave of the pandemic.
By provinces, 151 cases were registered in Seville, followed by 125 in Málaga, 66 in Almería, 65 in Granada, 39 in Cádiz, 32 in Jaén, 23 in Huelva and 20 in Córdoba.
Cumulative incidence rate
As of Friday, the 14-day incidence rate in Andalucía has dropped to 61.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a 1.8 point decline in just 24 hours. This new figure is a substantial 18.4 points less than this day last week, and brings the community far lower than the national Spanish average of 71,86 cases.
All provinces now have an incidence rate below 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the province of Almería in the lead with 97.8. Behind are Huelva with 76; followed by Seville with 69.8; Málaga with 69.3; Granada with 54.6; Cádiz with 42.7; Córdoba with 38.6 and Jaén with 32.9.
Hospitalisations and Fatalities
Hospital pressure is also easing throughout Andalucía, with a decrease of 21 patients compared to Thursday to reach a total of 399 hospitalisations. This is the first time the number of admitted patients has dipped below 400 since August 28, 2020, reducing by 109 people in seven days. The number of patients being treated in intensive care units (ICUs) has decreased by six to 110, 16 fewer than last week.
Unfortunately, it is not all positive news, as data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalucía (IECA) show that 14 more fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, double the seven deaths recorded the previous day and the same day last week. By provinces, Málaga has the most people hospitalised with Covid at 111 patients, 20 of whom are in the ICU. It is followed by Seville, Córdoba and Granada.
Vaccination campaign
Approximately 6,610,106 people in Andalucía are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus, representing 77.9% of the population, while an impressive 91.3% of those over the age of 12 have received at least one jab. The region is now considering vaccinating children between the ages of 5 and 11 before the end of October.
