ARCHIVED - Andalusia Covid update September 20: hospitalisations drop for fifth consecutive day
Authorities in Andalucía reported 528 new Covid cases this Monday
The update released by the regional authorities in Andalucía on Monday September 20 revealed a similar number of cases to the figure from last Monday September 13, but other Covid data shows a more drastic change, such as the hospitalisations in the region.
This Monday reported 528 new cases (figure for 48 hours), an increase from Saturday’s figure of 474, but a lower number than the rest of last week, which saw 563 cases on Friday, 588 on Thursday, 628 on Wednesday, 577 on Tuesday and a slightly lower figure of 504 cases last Monday.
Cumulative incidence rate
Both the 7-day and the 14-day incidence rates in Andalucía are lower than the national average, with the latest regional report indicating a rate of 72.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks and 29.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week, while Spain’s 14-day and 7-day cumulative incidence rates are 83.4 and 34.8, respectively.
The recent data shows a 29.3 point decrease in the 14-day rate since this time last week, on Monday September 13.
Hospitalisations
The region of Andalucía reported a decrease in the number of hospitalised Covid patients for the fifth day in a row and there are now 461 patients; a decrease of 31 since Saturday and 112 fewer than last Monday.
Meanwhile, paradoxically, the number of ICU patients has increased for the second consecutive day and now stands at 130.
Fatalities
Unfortunately, six more people lost their lives to Covid since the previous update and the total number of deceased since the start of the pandemic is 11,112. Of the six fatalities, four were in Almería, one was in Cádiz and one in Sevilla.
Vaccination campaign
Approximately 77.4% of the population in Andalucía is now fully immunized, equivalent to 87.9% of over 12s (6,552,176 people), while 80.1% has received at least one dose, equivalent to an impressive 91% of over 12s (6,782,336).
These data place Andalucía far ahead of the national vaccine campaign, as currently only 75.9% of the Spanish population is fully vaccinated.
